The Humber Zero project was pleased to see the recent shortlist announcement, from UK Government, on the Phase-2 Cluster Sequencing for Carbon Capture Utilisation and Storage (CCUS). This is clear progress for the track-1 CCUS clusters development which will enable Hynet and East Coast Cluster to be online and capturing carbon emissions by 2027.
We are continuing to progress the front-end engineering design for the carbon capture plants for VPI Immingham LLP’s ICHP Plant and Phillips 66 Limited’s Humber Refinery until 2023. This has been funded by both companies, which was a combined investment of £12.5 million, and match funded by UK Research and Innovation.
We look forward to continuing our work with the UK Government on the track-1 CCUS clusters and we are keen to receive further information on track-2 and wider deployment of carbon capture and storage.
Carbon capture and storage is vital in supporting the decarbonisation of UK industry and to meet the UK Government’s ambition of capturing 20-30 million tonnes of CO2 by 2030.
